Coppice Crafts
Why I make stick chairs
Making stick chairs is the perfect craft to compliment my work coppicing in the wood. I love the whole process of working in the wood to bringing bundles of sticks to my workshop to start the creative process of making chairs.
I love disappearing into my workshop to allow the magical creative process to begin.
The sticks shape the chair that I make creating unique pieces of work for people to enjoy.
“Stick Chair Claire”
Handmade Chairs by Claire Samways
All my chairs are handmade from locally sourced wood cut by my hand through the sustainable and ancient woodland practice of coppicing from native woodlands in Ireland.
Making stick chairs is the perfect craft to compliment my work in the woods. I love the whole process from cutting in the wood and bundling up sticks of coppiced hazel, to disappearing into my workshop to start the creative and magical process of chair making.
What I make
I produce a range of stick chairs and stools; from the children’s ‘Babes in the Wood’ chair range to adult dining and rocking chairs.
